Ooty (The Queen of Hill Stations) – Is also known as Udhagamandalam and is a beauty full hill station situated at an altitude of 2286 Meters above from the sea level, in the state of Tamil Nadu in south India. The town is surrounded by trees, central Ooty Lake is a huge artificial expanse of water with pleasure boats. On the slopes of nearby Elk Hill, the Rose Garden is home to over 2,000 varieties of roses. The climate in Ooty is mostly pleasant and thus one can plan a visit at any time of the year except monsoon. Ooty is located 86 Km from north of Coimbatore and 158 Km south of Mysore and is the capital of the Nilgiris district. It is a popular hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills. The town is connected by the Nilgiri Ghat Roads and Nilgiri Mountain Railway. Its natural environment attracts tourists and it is a popular summer destination. Ooty is well connected to the road network. It is 306 km from Bengaluru (Via Mysore and Bandipur) 558 Km from Chennai (via Salem, Erode, and Coimbatore), 246 Km from Kannur, 180 Km from Calicut and nearly 100 Km from Wayanad. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) is one of the oldest mountain railways in Ooty, India and was declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2005. It is the only Rack Railway in India and uses the Abt system. Mettupalayam which is 47 Km away from Ooty is the nearest major railway station. There are regular train services from Mettupalayam to Coimbatore and Chennai. Toy Train from Mettupalayam to Ooty covers a distance of 46 Km. The train offers to travellers with long stretches of rice fields, lofty hills, 13 tunnels and 26 viaducts. It also offers nice photographic opportunities as well. The nearest Airport is Coimbatore around 96 Km away and Major International Airport is Bengaluru (Kempegowda International Airport 273 Km away).

OOTY - KODAIKANAL TOUR PACKAGE

Day 01: Arrive at Bangalore/Mysore/Coimbatore/Madurai – Ooty (266 Km from Bangalore – 6 Hrs / 126 Km from Mysore 4 Hrs / 87 Km from Coimbatore 3 Hrs / 285 Km from Madurai 7 Hrs – Travel time is approx

Morning pick up from Bangalore/Mysore/Coimbatore or Madurai Airport/Railway station/Bus Stand and straight drive to Ooty. On arrival at Ooty, check in to hotel. After refresh, proceed for sightseeing tour of Ooty (If time allow) and visit to Ooty Rose Garden – Formerly Centenary Rose Park, is the largest rose garden in India. It is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty town at an altitude of 2200 Meters. This garden has one of the largest collections of roses in the country with more than 20,000 varieties of roses and won the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia. Ooty Lake – This Lake is an artificial lake, covers an area of 65 acres. The boat house established alongside the lake, which offers boating facilities to tourists and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ooty. Doddabetta Peak – It is the highest peak of the Nilgiris Hills at an altitude of 2,683 Meters above from the sea level, situated at about 10 Km from the Ooty, it is also the second highest peak of South India. It lies at the junction of the Western and Eastern Ghats surrounded by dense Sholas. If time allow then also visit to Ooty Tribal Research Centre – Located at about 10 Km from Ooty, is functioning in the campus of Tribal Research Centre since 1989 depiciting various tribal cultures of Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Recently carved fier-made tribal statues are attracting more numbers of tourists from India and abroad. Later return back to hotel and free for your own activities or explore local market of Ooty and overnight stay at Ooty hotel.

Day 02: Ooty Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, proceed for full day sightseeing tour of Ooty and explore several prominent tourist attractions of Ooty and visit to Wax World Ooty – Located at 2 Km away from the main city. Wax World Museum & Art Gallery is a collection of Life-size look-alike wax statues that display Indian personalities, history, heritage and culture. Deer Park – Park is located at about 1 Km away from The Ooty Lake. The park is known to be one of the high altitude animal parks in India. The park is very good-looking and provides to tourists a chance to observe wildlife at its natural habitat. Park is home to deer along with Sambhar and Chithal. The park is also host a variety of flora and fauna, especially avian fauna. Avalanche Lake – Is located at about 28 Km from Ooty and is an important tourist destination in the Nilgiris district. The lake is surrounded by a rolling landscape with blooming flowers like magnolias, orchids and rhododendrons. This lake is used by tourists as a camp site wherein they pitch tents around the lake. Other tourist activities in the area include rafting across the lake and trekking the nearby hilly regions like Upper Bhavani where there are thick forests and untouched wild habitats. Kalhatti Water Falls – Is a tourist spot near Ooty, These falls are about 15 Km from Ooty, on the Ooty to Mysore Road or Sigur Ghat Road. Also visit to Kamraj Sagar Dam – It is located at a distance of 10 Mm from the Ooty. The Kamaraj Sagar Dam is in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu state in India. It is a picnic spot and a film shooting spot on the slopes of the Wenlock Downs. This place is attracts to the tourists for its beauty of dam, fishing, studying nature and environment. Later return back to your hotel, after refresh free for your own activities and overnight stay at Ooty hotel.

Day 03: Ooty – Kodaikanal (255 Km) Travel time 6/7 hours (Approx)

After breakfast check out from Ooty hotel and drive to Kodaikanal. On arrival at Kodaikanal, check in to hotel. After refresh, proceed for sightseeing tour of Kodaikanal (If time allow) and visit to Kodaikanal Lake – Is an artificial lake, built in 1863. It is recognized as Kodaikanal's most popular geographic landmark and tourist attraction. The 5 Km path that skirts the periphery of this lovely lake is a favourite walk for the locals and tourists alike. Boating, horse riding, bicycling are a few of the popular activities around the lake. Shopping – You are free for shopping in Kodaikanal and explore Kashmir Handicrafts Centre, Khadi Emporium, Government Sales Emporium and Handloom Co-Operative Stores. You can also buy homemade chocolates, cheese and marshmallows. Aromatherapy products and herbs are also bought by almost every tourist. Later return back to your hotel and overnight stay at Kodaikanal hotel.

Day 04: Kodaikanal Sightseeing Tour – Departure Bangalore/Mysore/Coimbatore/Madurai Airport or Railway Station

After breakfast, check out from Kodaikanal hotel and proceed for sightseeing tour of Kodaikanal (Places will cover according to your departure time from Kodaikanal) and explore several prominent tourist attractions of Kodaikanal and visit to Pillar Rocks – Is 8 Km away from the Kodaikanal bus stand, Pillar Rock is a set of three giant rock pillars which stand at a height of 122 Meters. There is an excellent public garden adjacent to the viewpoint. This spot offers captivating view of lush green surroundings, it also offers magnificent view of the Vaigai Dam. Dolphin's Nose – It is 8 Km way from the Kodaikanal, is flat rock over a breathtaking chasm 6,600 feet (2,000 Meters) deep. Beautiful views of steep rocky escarpments rising from the plains can be seen. A short paved walkway leads from the road here to Pambar falls (which is also locally addressed as 'Liril Falls' after the famous Liril Soap Advertisement filming in 1985). Pine forest – Mr. Bryant started the Kodaikanal pine plantations in the south-west of Kodaikanal in 1906 with a view to growing valuable timber. The Pine forest is a paradise for photographers and also beauty full place for nature lovers. Horse riding and walking is quite popular here. Guna Caves / Devil’s Kitchen – It is located at a distance of 8.5 Km from Kodaikanal Bus Stand and 1.5 km from Pillar Rocks, Guna Cave is wonderful tourist spot in Kodaikanal. The Devil's Kitchen is a group of caverns located between the three gigantic boulders called as the Pillar Rocks. In 1992 the Tamil movie named 'Guna' starring the popular actor Kamal Haasan was shot inside the Devil's Kitchen caves. Kodaikanal Solar Observatory – It is located at 6 Km away from Kodaikanal bus stand on Observatory Road, at an altitude of 2,343 Meters above from the see level and is the highest point of Kodai Hills. The Kodaikanal Terrestrial Telescope can view a grand panorama including Sothupparai Dam, Vaigai Dam, Periyakulam and Varaha River. Also visit to Silver Cascade Waterfalls – It is located at 8 Km away from the Kodaikanal town, at an altitude of 1,800 Meters (5,900 ft) above from the see level, where 55 Meter waterfall formed from the outflow of Kodaikanal Lake. This impressive waterfall is a popular stop for first time visitors. There is also a smaller but more serene waterfall below the bridge which crosses the stream here. Later drive back to Bangalore/Mysore/Coimbatore or Madurai. On arrival at your desire destination, transfer to Airport/Railway station to board the flight/train for further journey back to home or onward destination.
